Elliot B. Page, William Kelsoe, and associates, applied to establish a branch or lodge of the [[Theosophical Society]], which was then [[Adyar (campus)|headquartered at Adyar, Madras, India]]. On September 17, 1882 the application was signed by [[Henry Steel Olcott|H.S. Olcott]], President, and [[Helena Petrovna Blavatsky|H.P. Blavatsky]], Corresponding Secretary. It was the third lodge that had been chartered, after the [[London Lodge]] and Rochester [New York] Lodge, and was the second to be granted a charter in the United States.
