Maurice Braun

Maurice Braun (1877-1941) was a Hungarian-American artist of the Point Loma community, noted for his landscapes of California. His family emigrated to New York City when he was a toddler.

Personal life

Maurice Braun was born on October 1, 1877, in Nagy-Bittse, Trencsén, in what is now Slovakia but was then part of the Kingdom of Hungary. He studied at the National Academy of Design and then under the American painter William Merritt Chase.

Braun died in San Diego, California, on November 7, 1941.

Artistic career

While in New York, Braun became known as a portrait painter.
